Have not had much time to work on my own projects Have not had much time to work on my own projects lately. However, I have been doing a lot of water simulations and figured I should put what I picked up to practice in a little personal project πŸ’¦ quite happy how the water shading turned out, the little bubbles and foam, and even added some waterplants in there πŸ§™πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ™…β€β™‚οΈπŸ”₯πŸ™†β€β™‚οΈ also first project made on my new computer, so the sim was actually reasonably fast πŸ”₯πŸ€–

My new installation; Protocol is up and running at My new installation; Protocol is up and running at MΓ€nttΓ€n @kuvataideviikot . The exhibition called β€˜To Err is Human’ opens today!

Protocol is an installation in which two computers are entangled in an endless conversation transferring self generated data back and forth. Visitors can enter this conversation, disturbing the data flow and in doing so create new possibilities. 

I have worked on this artwork for a very long time. So many things are fully custom made, from the steel framing mechanism to the tiny circuit boards that control the whole thing. Not to mention the many lines of code that control all the logic running on 4 seperate microcontrollers. I am very happy and honored that it is currently installed at Finlands biggest contemporary art summer exhibition and could not have imagined I would be making this artwork when I shifted to making interactive/media art some 2,5 years ago. I have to thank @mnstri and β€˜mechatronics Janne’ a lot for their support while building this. And ofcourse @ar_ruth for inviting me to the exhibition!

Go and see it if you can! It will be in MΓ€nttΓ€ for approximately 2,5 months starting today.

Watched Harry Potter again last week πŸ§™πŸ»β€β™‚οΈmakes you come up with magical stones trapped in gyroscopes. Did a little RBD sim with glowing things inside the glass-stone. Then some compositing adjustments in Nuke, for that nice orange/teal look. Actually made these a year ago and didn’t think they were nice enough. Made a little hair creature πŸ¦‘ took me some time Made a little hair creature πŸ¦‘ took me some time as the walking cycle is fully procedural, the system just takes a curve and figures out by itself how to do the correct foot placement. This one has seven limbs, but it can in theory support many more! Build up of SOPs for the placement, then trace those with Particle sim. Wire sim -> softbody sim -> hair sim - loose hair sim. Then composited in Nuke, quite a ride to get to this πŸ§™πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ”₯πŸ™†β€β™‚οΈ

Took it into Nuke to add some background rocks, sky, add lens characteristics and glow. Doing some testing with volumes. These are actuall Doing some testing with volumes. These are actually three simulations of the exact same settings but different voxel counts. 150 -> 300 -> 600 voxels across. Quite interesting to see how much it affects the look. Feeding in two colored value noises to multiply with the highs and lows of the worley. Definitely interesting result. This is an active adapter mounted on a Raspberry Pi 4 that allows me to drive the 24 led modules I have with just one Raspberry Pi.
